Serengeti means "endless plains" in Maasai language. This park is characterized by beautiful landscapes. It has huge grassy plains (savannas), big rock outcrops, rivers, hills, and woodlands.

Serengeti is one of the biggest national parks in Africa, covering an area of 14,763 square kilometers (5,700 square miles). 

It has the highest population of animals in the world. Serengeti has more than 3,000 lions - the highest population in all parks in Africa. Serengeti is rich with wildlife, there are cheetahs, leopards, serval cats, caracal cats, African wild dogs, Nile crocodiles, African wild cats, honey badgers, wildebeests, zebras, baboons, monkeys, warthogs, gazelles, topis, buffaloes, hartebeests, elands, bushbucks, waterbucks, hyenas, zorillas, mongooses, jackals, hippopotamuses, giraffes, reedbucks, and many more. Serengeti has more than 500 different species of birds.
